SMA Inverter Error Code 3401
SMA error 3401: DC overvoltage
SMA inverter error code 3401 usually means the DC input voltage connected to input A of the inverter is too high. When this happens, the inverter may stop operating to protect itself from damage.
This is not a normal operating message and should be treated seriously. Excessive DC voltage can damage inverter components if the system is not assessed properly.
DC overvoltage can sometimes occur due to incorrect solar string design, too many panels connected in series, cold-weather voltage rise, wiring issues or a PV array that has not been correctly matched to the inverter’s maximum input voltage.
Let e-Solar check your inverter and DC voltage
If SMA error code 3401 appears, do not keep trying to restart the inverter without understanding why the fault is occurring.
Our Perth-based solar team can inspect the inverter, test the DC input voltage and help determine whether the issue is linked to solar string design, panel configuration, DC cabling, inverter input limits or another system fault.
Contact e-Solar and let us know:
- The exact error code on the screen or app
- When the code appears
- Whether your solar production has dropped
- Your inverter model, if you know it
Do not open the inverter, disconnect DC cabling or inspect rooftop panels yourself. High-voltage DC solar systems can remain dangerous even when the inverter is turned off. If the issue is persistent, a qualified technician may need to test the PV array, review string configuration and confirm whether the system is safe to operate.
