SMA Inverter Error Code 6406
SMA error 6406: DC overcurrent
SMA inverter error code 6406 usually means the current at input A of the inverter is too high. When this happens, the inverter may interrupt feed-in operation to protect the system.
This is not a normal operating message and should not be ignored if it keeps appearing.
DC overcurrent can sometimes be linked to solar string configuration, PV module input issues, DC cabling faults, inverter input faults, voltage jumps, grid voltage issues or wider system conditions.
Let e-Solar check your inverter and DC input
If the code appears once and clears by itself, the inverter may have responded to a temporary current or voltage condition.
If SMA error code 6406 keeps returning, it is worth having the system checked. Our Perth-based solar team can inspect the inverter, review the DC input and help determine whether the issue is linked to PV input current, DC cabling, grid voltage, voltage jumps, inverter hardware or wider network conditions.
Contact e-Solar and let us know:
- The exact error code on the screen or app
- When the code appears
- Whether your solar production has dropped
- Your inverter model, if you know it
Do not open the inverter, inspect rooftop panels or attempt DC electrical testing yourself. If the issue is persistent, a qualified technician may need to test the PV input, inspect the DC cabling, review grid voltage and assess whether the inverter requires servicing or replacement.
