SMA Inverter Error Code 401
SMA error 401: Island grid
SMA inverter error code 401 usually means the inverter has detected unstable grid conditions and has stopped feed-in operation for safety reasons. This protection is commonly referred to as islanding protection.
The inverter continuously monitors the utility grid while operating. If it detects abnormal grid behaviour, loss of stable grid connection or significant short-term frequency fluctuations, it may disconnect automatically to protect the solar system and wider electricity network.
This does not always mean the inverter itself has failed. In many cases, the issue may be linked to temporary grid instability, power supply interruptions or local network conditions.
Let e-Solar check your inverter and grid connection
If the code appears once and clears by itself, the inverter may simply be responding to a temporary grid disturbance. The inverter will usually continue monitoring the grid and reconnect once stable conditions return.
If SMA error code 401 keeps returning, it is worth having the system checked. Our Perth-based solar team can inspect the inverter, assess the grid connection and help determine whether the issue is linked to grid instability, frequency fluctuations, site wiring, inverter settings or wider network conditions.
Contact e-Solar and let us know:
- The exact error code on the screen or app
- When the code appears
- Whether your solar production has dropped
- Your inverter model, if you know it
Do not open the inverter or attempt electrical testing yourself. If the issue is persistent, a qualified solar technician may need to inspect the AC supply, test grid conditions and review whether the issue should be raised with the network provider.
